A few weeks ago I was riding an express train to work with a fellow
young professional. We were a little late that morning. The train
stopped on W4th, and conductor said it’s a temporary no-go. In a
minute a local train pulls up on the other side of the platform, and
my friends is pulling me to transfer. We’re only a few stops away from
the destination and local vs. express makes little difference.
However, I am reluctant to go, b/c I expect the same no-go for the
local train as well. This is when the interesting part begins.

We keep on standing in the express train, when another local arrives.
I agree to transfer to the local, and from the standing local we see
our express train leaving. Another express pulls up, while we’re
standing in local. I don’t want to describe the logic behind our
actions, but we decide not to transfer. In a minute, we see express
leave and another one pull up. We let it go as well. Yet another
express arrives on the other side of the platform. I start laughing
hysterically and my friend is solemnly disappointed. We transfer to
express, and see our local finally leave the station (without us). To
my amusement, another local arrives shortly. We don’t transfer, and it
passes us by. Twenty minutes in the station without any progress!
Without even knowing if we will ever get to work.
Bad luck? Maybe. Conspiracy? A Definite No. Lack of sound judgment?
Abso-friggin-lutely!

Moral: Traders have this kind of days occasionally. They have to admit
that they’ve made a consecutive row of bad decisions on those days. If
you can’t take a hit like that, don’t make wagers or trade, not even
as an amateur.
